This document is a fact sheet provided by the US Department of Education as guidance to help identify services that undocumented children may qualify for through their schools. The district is required to provide these services if needed by the student.

RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS:

Define American - is resource that has been shared in the past that can help educators develop a curriculum.

Educators can use the film Documented in the classroom, involving their students in a new conversation about immigrants, citizenship and American identity. The curriculum is aligned with both the Common Core 11th and 12th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies standards, and to the Anti-Bias Framework created by Teaching Tolerance, the educational branch of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS:

Access to health care for immigrants, particularly undocumented immigrants is an issue that needs to be addressed. The challenges and barriers in accessing health care for undocumented immigrants are not well understood, as multiple stories are often told or featured in news articles and there is no quantitative record on its impact. Thus, inspired by the great work conducted the Dream Summer scholars and the UCLA Department of Labor Studies in California, Jennifer Rodriguez (undocujersey) will be conducting an anonymous survey to gather more information on the experiences, challenges, and barriers faced by undocumented immigrants in the state of New Jersey. This is the first study of its kind to be conducted in the state of New Jersey. The information gathered will be used to inform policy options that can be designed to best serve the undocumented community in our state.

To be eligible to take this anonymous survey, the participant must be 18 years of age or older. Individuals who identify as undocumented or with DACA are encouraged to participate, however, people in mixed-status families are also welcomed. Further, if you have health insurance, you can still participate in this study as it will help inform the avenues through which people have obtained coverage.
